WEDA Overview

The Western Extension Directors Association (WEDA) is open to the 1862 Extension Directors and 1994 Representatives of the Land-Grant Cooperative Extension organizations in 17 states and territories. WEDA works on mutually beneficial programs and organizational issues in partnership with USDA-NIFA (National Institute for Food and Agriculture), and the APLU (Association of Public and Land-Grant Universities), as well as other regional and national organizations.

WEDA Mission

The WEDA mission is to advance the Land Grant College/University Extension programs in member states and territories in the Western Region to assist in meeting the challenges and opportunities of the 21st century by:

  • Facilitating stakeholder input on critical issues;
  • Creating a voice on national issues for the West, including insular areas;
  • Mentoring and developing Extension leadership and professionals; and

Reports and Publications

Compiling best practices, WEDA members have created reports on relevant topics ranging from nutrition and water to diversity and youth development.

WEDA Committees

WEDA is governed by Rules of Operation and a committee structure that includes six standing committees — Executive Committee, Western Region Program Leadership Committee (WRPLC), Western Regional Administrators (WRAM), Western Extension Leadership Development Committee (WELD), Resolutions Committee, and Nominations Committee.

WEDA's Awards of Excellence recognize Extension outreach education programming that has achieved outstanding accomplishments, results, and impacts in addressing contemporary issues in one or more of the 13 Western states and Pacific Island US Territories.
