PERMACULTURE DESIGN SERIES

Mapping Tools for Permaculture Design

On-Demand

One of the most important steps in permaculture design is learning how to read and understand the landscape.

Good maps reveal patterns that are difficult to see from the ground, water movement, elevation changes, vegetation patterns, and other key features that influence how a regenerative system should be designed.

Today, permaculture designers are increasingly combining traditional observation with modern mapping tools such as drone photography, GIS software, and digital site analysis.

In this webinar, Milo Stuart of Rainwalk Design and Ben Missimer of Pearl River Eco-Design will share the tools and processes they use to develop maps for real-world permaculture design projects.

You’ll get a behind-the-scenes look at how designers translate raw landscape data into practical design insights.

Why Attend?

In this free webinar, you’ll learn how to:

  • Use modern mapping tools to better understand a landscape before designing

  • Combine drone imagery, GIS data, and site observation to analyze landforms and water flow

  • Identify patterns and features that influence regenerative landscape design

  • Translate mapping data into practical permaculture design decisions

  • See how professional designers approach site analysis and mapping workflows

WEBINAR HOSTS

Milo Stuart Milo Stuart

Milo Stuart is an instructor in the OSU Permaculture program and the owner of Rainwalk Design, a company focused on regenerative landscape design and implementation.

Rainwalk Design specializes in:

  • Design-build projects focused on water retention and perennial systems

  • GNSS-aided site mapping and basic GIS services for clients across coastal British Columbia

Milo works with landowners and organizations to develop regenerative landscapes that integrate ecological function with practical land use.

Ben Missimer Ben Missimer

Ben Missimer is a permaculture designer, GIS technician, cartographer, digital artist, animator, filmmaker, and software developer. He is the founder of Pearl River Eco-Design, a mission-driven practice dedicated to advancing regenerative design through both technical and artistic work.

Ben’s work blends mapping, storytelling, and design to help people better understand landscapes and build more resilient systems.
