2.) Language-Neutral Health Care Interpreter Training

If you speak English and another language—and want to make a difference in health care—this online training can help you start or advance your interpreting career.

In this 64-hour, fully online program, you’ll learn the skills and ethics required to interpret accurately and effectively in a variety of medical settings.

Program Highlights:

• Health-care interpreter ethics (NCIHC standards)
• Anatomy and medical terminology
• Consecutive and simultaneous interpreting
• Sight translation and remote interpreting skills
• Weekly one-on-one practice and feedback with instructors

Each module focuses on a new anatomy system and corresponding terminology, reinforcing your command of English medical vocabulary.

3.) Health Care Interpreter Continuing Education Mini Conference

In-Person sessions

Connect with fellow Eastern Oregon interpreters while earning continuing education credits that count toward renewal with OHA, IMIA/NBCMI, and CCHI. This two-day mini-conference combines ethics- and skills-based CEU coursework with real networking time for interpreters working in the Columbia River Gorge/Tri-Cities area.

This event offers up to 8 hours of CEU sessions designed for interpreters who want to:

• Sharpen ethical decision-making skills using the revised NCIHC 2025 Code of Ethics and the Demand-Control Schema.
• Apply professionalism standards through hands-on role play and self-evaluation practice.
• Build the skills needed to interpret confidently in public health settings, not just clinical ones.

Sessions run November 20 and 21 at the OSU Extension Office in Hermiston, with an optional dinner and social hour on the evening of the 20th for interpreters who want time to relax and connect with colleagues.
