E-Learning Certificate: Developing and Implementing E-Learning

Developing and Implementing E-Learning aims to introduce you to the skills required to successfully develop and manage the implementation of e-learning projects and training programs.

Being a Facilitator of Learning

During this course, you will have an opportunity to become familiar with strategies that will help you create an online course environment that is both engaging and inclusive.

The culminating assignment in week 6 will allow you an opportunity to recap and apply what you learned during the first 5 weeks of the course by designing an effective mini course outline that includes the following design elements:

  • LMS choice
  • How your online learning community will be established/maintained,
  • Course-level Outcomes
  • Module-level Objectives, assessment/rubric
  • How you will adhere to copyright
  • What UDL tools you will use

This course not only covers how to use strategies and tools from the perspective of an instructor, but also encourages you to see yourself as a “facilitator” of learning.

With this knowledge of Adult Education, you will garner the skillset that will encourage your future learners to take responsibility for their own learning.

This course will help you gain the ability to develop quality online courses that feature alignment between critical course components such as outcomes, objectives, activities, & assessments.

In this course, you will learn about:

  • Planning the scope, sequence and pace of a project or program
  • Introduction to Learning and Content Management Systems
  • Choose the most effective and cost-efficient course delivery formats
  • Setup and management of discussion boards, synchronous learning sessions, collaborative activities, voice threads, wikis, videos and more
  • Creating and maintaining student engagement
  • Understanding copyright and fair use laws, intellectual property and open educational resources
  • Managing the design schedule and budget of a project or program

Instructors

Laura Boehme, Ph.D.

Laura Boehme, Ph.D., has been teaching in higher education for more than 12 years. Dr. Boehme currently serves as the Chief Information Officer and Chief Human Resources Officer at Central Oregon Community College (COCC). She has also taught for COCC, Oregon State Ecampus, and Purdue University in areas such as business, human resources, computer information systems, ethics, adult learning theory, needs assessment, project management and e-learning design and development. She earned a Master’s in Adult Education and a Ph.D. in Higher Education Leadership, both from Oregon State University. was born in Reno, Nevada. Her family has lived in Bend, Oregon for 20 years, enjoying the beautiful outdoors via biking, running and hiking.

Dr. Boehme is very much an advocate for "constructionist" and “self-directed” models of learning, treating learning as a process of growth, building and becoming (rather than an object to be acquired or transmitted). Her approach typically includes creating a welcoming and engaging learning environment for students to immerse in the learning content, coupled with reflection and sharing to enhance the learning experience. She provides “scaffolding” the learning to aid learners in building foundational skills and competencies, upon which other learning can then be layered as the learner is ready to move to a new level. She looks forwards to partnering with you as your guide and support in our program.
